Crash Closes Road To Nine Mile Falls

State Highway 291 in Nine Mile Falls was closed for about three and a half hours Friday night because of a two-car accident.

Five people were injured, including one man who was airlifted to Deaconess Medical Center.

The five, all in their 60s, were in satisfactory condition. None required surgery.

The accident occurred about 7:30 p.m. Friday, when one car was struck by a second vehicle and flipped over on Highway 291 at the border of Stevens and Spokane counties. Washington State Patrol officers did not immediately know the cause of the accident.

Several passengers had to be extricated from their cars.

The highway was closed between Charles and Big Sandy roads from 7:30 to about 11 p.m. Nine Mile resident were left confused and fuming when they were turned away.
