Ligertown Cats Doing Well At New Home

Associated Press

Lions removed from Ligertown are healthy and eating more than a half ton of meat per week, said a veterinarian at Wildlife Way Station, where the animals are housed.

“It takes a lot to take care of lions,” said Dr. Rebecca Yates, who works at the Southern California wildlife center.

In late September, 27 lions were removed from Ligertown, a game compound near Lava Hot Springs, after veterinarians with the Humane Society of the U.S. said living conditions were inhumane. Another 19 lions were killed after some of them escaped starting Sept. 20.

About 45 wolf hybrids were taken to a former zoo in Roberts. The hybrids have given birth and now there are about 60 hybrids, according to a sheriff’s report.

Yates testified in the trial of Ligertown operators Robert Fieber and Dotti Martin. They are on trial in Pocatello on misdemeanor charges of cruelty to animals, zoning violations and possession of protected wildlife.
