The high-speed quad chairlift at Schweitzer Mountain Resort will remain closed for the rest of the ski season, resort officials said Friday.
The lift was shut down last month after the lift manufacturer warned resorts about possible faulty parts. The main concern was cracked grips, which hold the chairs to the cable.
Schweitzer found several faulty parts on a number of chairs. The chairs were removed and the resort hoped to reopen the lift while awaiting replacement parts.
But resort officials said removing the chairs created too light a load on the cable and it was not 100 percent safe to operate.
