Celtics May Go After Pitino

Chicago Tribune

If his team loses in the NCAA tournament, Kentucky coach Rick Pitino no doubt will be feeling somewhat green. And then Pitino may just choose green.

At least that’s the feeling in Boston as the Celtics, fearing the thousands of empty seats for most games now will turn into non-paying customers next season as the mess around coach-general manager M.L. Carr keeps growing, may reach out for Pitino to restore the storied franchise.

Pitino, who also will get (and reject) an offer from the Nets, attended Massachusetts, coached at Boston U. and Providence and has said his time in New England was his happiest ever. He has two children in school there and has always held out hope of returning to the NBA.

The Nets, meanwhile, may make another run at TNT commentator Hubie Brown, like they did last summer. Brown, who wanted the job, couldn’t wait for the end of the lockout and signed with TNT.
