‘Jane Roe’ Named In Clinic Scuffle

Compiled From Wire Services

Norma McCorvey, the “Jane Roe” of the landmark Roe vs. Wade case who is now opposed to abortion, was accused of pushing an abortion clinic worker in a dispute over a parking space.

The scuffle happened March 8 in a parking lot shared by the A Choice for Women clinic and the national headquarters of Operation Rescue, an anti-abortion group, police said.

McCorvey, who works at Operation Rescue, bumped Tina Gannon’s van with her car and then pushed the woman down, police said. Gannon, 35, a secretary at the abortion clinic, was not injured.

McCorvey said she didn’t touch the woman.

McCorvey’s case led to the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in 1973. She worked at A Choice for Women until last year, when she was baptized by Operation Rescue’s leader and joined the group.
