Jared Clifford (1-0) pitched the final five innings in relief of Todd Belitz to pick up his first win of the year.

Starter Chris Van Vliet (0-1) took the loss for Dartmouth (0-5), working the first six innings, allowing 23 hits and 21 runs. Dan Godfrey finished up for the Big Green.

The Cougars jumped on the Dartmouth starter in the first inning, scoring three runs on Jon Fischer’s single and Hairston’s first home run.

WSU added five runs in the second, then three runs in each of the next three innings, followed by a four-run sixth. WSU’s final run came in the eighth. Dartmouth scored six runs in the fourth, all off Belitz, then pushed home two runs in the eighth and four runs in the ninth.
