Theme Contest Launched For Fair

Compiled From Wire Services

The Spokane Interstate Fair is looking for a theme.

County fair officials have launched a public contest to come up with an appropriate topic for this year’s event, Sept. 6-15.

The winner gets a free trip for two to Reno.

Themes should be brief - 15 words or less - and reflect ideas and thoughts from the 1950s or 1960s, such as poodle skirts, dungarees and love beads.

Entries must be postmarked by April 15 from people 18 and older. They should be written on 3-inch-by-5-inch cards with names, addresses and telephone numbers on the back.

Entries are limited to one per person and should be mailed to the fair office, 404 N. Havana, Spokane 99202.

The contest will be held each year through 2000 with annual winners eventually vying for a grand prize.

For more information, call the fair at 535-1766 or the Spokane Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau at 624-1341.
