Top Ecology Official Sets ‘Major Statement’ Today

Washington Department of Ecology Director Mary Riveland will be in Spokane today to announce her agency’s plans to curtail bluegrass field burning.

“It’s a major statement,” said Grant Pfeifer, Spokane’s chief air cop at the department.

Riveland also will announce a three-day public symposium on grass field burning alternatives and the health effects of grass field smoke.

The symposium will be held in Spokane March 25-27.
