Spokane County On Disaster List

From Staff And Wire Reports

Spokane County joined 23 other Washington counties and the Yakama Indian Nation on President Clinton’s February flood disaster list.

The declaration, announced late Monday, makes Spokane County residents eligible for disaster housing help, low-interest loans and grants.

April 11 is the deadline for affected residents to apply for help. The U.S. Small Business Administration will loan money to homeowners, renters and business owners to repair or replace damaged property.

Federal money also will be given to state and local governments to pay 75 percent of the costs to restore damaged public facilities and to mitigate future disaster risks.

For more information about SBA disaster loans, call 1-800-488-5323.

To apply for disaster assistance, call the Federal Emergency Management Agency hotline at 1-800-462-9029.
