Labor For Clinton, Hikes Dues To Help
Organized labor gave its earliest endorsement to President Clinton on Monday and launched a bigbucks campaign against the GOP Congress.
Downplaying feuds over free trade and other issues, Vice President Al Gore accepted the AFL-CIO’s backing by saying, “Our mosquitoes of misunderstanding pale in comparison with the dinosaurs of disgust we have with the other side.”
The federation, under new leadership for the first time in 16 years, also unanimously approved an increase in dues to help establish a $35 million fund to rout the Republican majorities from Congress.
