Railroad Rule Developed

Associated Press

The Federal Railroad Administration announced Monday its first proposal for improved worker safety developed through negotiations between workers and rail managers.

Federal Railroad Administrator Jolene M. Molitoris said the proposal would “promote safety.”

The proposal would require railroads to produce safety manuals and clearly define employers’ responsibilities for safe operations.

They would also be required to develop communication procedures and provide annual safety training.
