Wbc Champ Retires During Fight

Russian Viktor Baranov won the WBC international welterweight title in Sydney, Australia, when champion Grahame Cheney of Australia retired after the fourth round fearing serious injury if he continued to fight.

Cheney, who said he suffers from Epstein Barr virus, also known as chronic fatigue syndrome, told the crowd at the Revesby Workers Club that he had lost all his energy.

Mark Breland, a former welterweight champion, will not be able to fight Friday night because of a stomach virus. Breland was to have fought Floyd Williams of Mobile, Ala.
