Body Found In Freezer

Associated Press

A woman discovered a body thawing in her former roommate’s locked freezer after prying it open in search of some missing clothes, police said Tuesday.

The owner of the freezer, 44-year-old Gale Zylstra, was arrested Tuesday and made “some admissions” during questioning, Sgt. Mike Torres said.

He did not elaborate.

The identity of the body was not confirmed, but Torres said police believed it was a woman who had been Zylstra’s roommate in 1991.

However, no missing persons report had been filed on that woman.

Torres said the woman who discovered the body, who police would not identify, lived with Zylstra until about four months ago. Zylstra had left the locked freezer at the woman’s house to pick up later, Torres said.

The woman was missing some clothes and thought they might be in the locked freezer.

Zylstra was ordered held without bond on murder charges.

Torres said they were working on determining the cause of death.
