Just Fiddlin’ Around At Regional Contest

Fiddlers from the Northwest states and western Canadian provinces will gather in the Spokane Valley this weekend for the 28th Annual Northwest Regional Fiddle Contest.

Hundreds of fiddlers, age 9 to 70, will compete in the two-day contest. The public is invited to attend any part of the competition. All events will be at Trent Elementary, 3303 N. Pines.

The contest begins at 8 a.m. Saturday and continues with sessions beginning at 12:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The evening session will feature Fiddlesticks, a youth fiddle group, and Riders of the Rockin’ B, a local cowboy group from Liberty Lake which follows in the hoofsteps of the Sons of the Pioneers. The evening also will include some of the final rounds in the contest.

The Sunday session kicks off at 9 a.m. The championship final and other final rounds begin at noon.

Single session tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for students and seniors, and free for children under 5. Weekend passes are $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors.

A special senior discount is available for the 12:45 p.m. Saturday competition, which features the senior contests and the small-fry rounds.
