A police chase of burglary suspects in a station wagon ended in a fatal crash Wednesday morning on Washington 167 in the Kent area, Renton police said.
Patrol cars chased the car at high speeds for several blocks but the chase was called off when the fleeing vehicle went the wrong way on the highway, also known as the Valley Freeway.
The station wagon continued and collided head-on with a small pickup truck, killing the pickup’s driver. Renton police identified the driver as Terry Grubham, 33, of Kent, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 17-year-old male who was driving the station wagon and a 16-year-old female passenger, both from the Renton area, were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The male was in critical condition with internal injuries, police said, while the girl was in satisfactory condition with internal and back injuries. Their names were not immediately released.
