Titan Girls Plan To Make Move In Gsl Golfing Ranks This Year

Mike Vlahovich Staff Writer

With the best of last year’s Greater Spokane League girls golfers returned, University and Central Valley are looking to the future.

Last year CV finished in the middle of the league with an 8-8 record. University was last.

Titan coach Dale Bouge predicts a much improved season for his team.

“We’ll jump into the middle of the GSL (this year),” he said. “The year after we’ll make a run for the title.”

The Bears bring back two players who just missed the cut for state last year, but doesn’t have the numbers of the Titans. Still, the Bears finished sixth this week in the Coca Cola Classic, a 10-team tournament at Downriver.

CV girls team shy of numbers

CV’s girls golf team right now has but four players. The coaches are seeking a couple more. Two of those back, seniors Christa Klein and Desiree Lockwood made the finals but didn’t qualify in the top 11 for state.

Only eight advance this year. And 10 of the top 14 scorers in league are returning to the league. So the CV pair have their work cut out this season. Rounding out the team are juniors Kim Allan and Sandy Hughes.

Titan girls experienced, young

There is nary a senior among the Titan varsity, and only two juniors.

“All are in the low 50s now and will go under 100 this year (for 18 holes),” said Bouge. “Next year they’ll be consistently under.”

Returnees in order of finish last year are sophomores Tanya Burroughs and Megan Johnson, junior Emily Tyson, sophomores Lisa Stong, Crystal Conant, Alyssa Woods, Emily Anderegg and junior Cheryl Bierwagen.
