Irvin Case Takes Detour

Compiled From Wire Services

A Dallas grand jury has promised limited immunity to the woman arrested on drug charges while in a motel room with Cowboys star Michael Irvin, a television station reported.

KXAS-TV, quoting unidentified sources, said the grand jury has offered “use immunity” to Angela Beck, 22, the only person charged in the case so far.

Such immunity prevents a witness from refusing to testify on the grounds of self-incrimination. But other evidence still could be used against her in a trial.

The station also reported that Irvin’s fingerprints were found on items in the room, including all three dinner plates on which cocaine residue was found.

The revelations came despite a gag rule that State District Judge John Creuzot imposed earlier in the week.

The grand jury’s three-month term was to expire Thursday, but Creuzot granted the panel’s request for a 30-day extension.

In Rockwall, Texas, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Bam Morris posted a $25,000 bond on a charge of possession of cocaine. Morris, 24, had been free on another $25,000 bond for possession of marijuana since his arrest last week.
