Show Off Your All Your Spring Flowers In A Lawn Planter

Don And Dave Runyan U-Bild Features

Here’s an easy do-it-yourself project that brightens up the yard and provides a handy place to display all those prize-winning plants and flowers.

This wheelbarrow-style lawn and patio planter features removable trays on three tiers to hold freshly cut blooms or potted plants and flowers. Wheels make it convenient to roll the planter into or out of sunshine or around the yard as desired.

This project is an easy and inexpensive one, so it’s possible to build two or more planters over a single weekend. Each one requires two pieces of exterior-grade plywood, two hardwood dowels, a small quantity of nails, waterproof glue and exterior paint.

Beginners will have no trouble sizing the parts because all of them (except for a few straight cuts) are traced from full-size patterns. After tracing the pieces onto a sheet of plywood, simply saw along the lines. Then sand all the pieces and assemble the planter with nails and glue. Finally, apply exterior paint and add detailing by using stencils, patterns or a design of your own creation.

The planter measures about 36 inches long by 20 inches wide by 30 inches tall.

The Lawn and Patio Planter plan, No. 318, is $6.95 and includes step-by-step instructions with photos, traceable patterns, exploded diagrams, a shopping list and a cutting diagram.

A package of three other easy planter plans, No. C103, is $16.95 and includes a cow planter, a deer trio and a donkey cart planter. A catalog picturing hundreds of projects is $3.95. Prices include postage and handling (for first-class mail, add $1 per item up to $3 maximum).
