Woman Admits Supplying Alcohol

Compiled From Wire Services

Carla Caskey, 34, of Davenport pleaded guilty Thursday to supplying liquor to the boy accused of setting fire to the Lincoln County Courthouse.

District Court Judge Jack Buck sentenced Caskey to five days in the county jail. Caskey had been charged with two counts of supplying liquor to a minor on Dec. 21, the day of the courthouse fire.

Deputy Prosecutor Josh Grant dropped one count when she admitted providing alcohol to accused courthouse arsonist Will Hill, 17.

Caskey gave her son a fifth of 151-proof rum for his 19th birthday, but said she didn’t intend him to share it with Hill and another teenager who were partying with her son at a motel.

She said she checked on the boys periodically and didn’t see them drinking. State law allows minors to consume alcohol in the presence of their parents, so Caskey wasn’t charged for giving the rum to her son.
