Moody’s Drops Threat To Downgrade Rating

Confident that the United States won’t miss debt payments next week, a leading Wall Street credit rater on Friday removed its blunt threat to downgrade America’s prized triple-A rating.

Moody’s said a measure passed Thursday by Congress to raise the nation’s debt ceiling eased any immediate default risk and freed the Treasury to borrow money from investors until late 1997.
