Mourning Scores 50 As Heat Beat Bullets

Alonzo Mourning scored 21 of his career-high 50 points in the first quarter, starting the Miami Heat to a 112-93 victory over the Washington Bullets at Miami on Friday night.

Mourning, who complemented his scoring with 12 rebounds, made 17 of 24 shots and 16 of 17 free throws.

The Heat have won 9 of 11, with a victory margin of 18.8 points.

Mourning’s opening-period effort was a franchise record and was one point less than Washington’s team total. He was 8 of 11 from the floor and made all five of his free throws during the quarter.
