Obituaries

Barbara Craig Kellogg

Memorial service for Barbara Jean Craig, 70, will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church of Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Craig, who was born in California, died Thursday.

She grew up in Modesto, Calif., and graduated from high school there in 1943. She moved to Wallace in the mid-1950s and operated the Old Oxford Cafe.

She returned to California, later retiring in Kellogg.

Mrs. Craig enjoyed playing the organ, singing, and raising African violets and other flowers.

She loved cooking and participating in community projects.

She was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Kellogg.

Mrs. Craig was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall.

Survivors include three daughters, Suzanne Coe of Wenatchee, Kathy Doty of California and Carla Hemmerich of New Mexico; one brother, Theodore Tucker of California; one aunt, Sara Marqardt of California; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Boyd Greene Pinehurst, Idaho

Memorial service for Boyd C. Greene, 83, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Greene, who was born in Ellensburg, died Thursday.

He moved to the Silver Valley in 1949 from Washington and worked for the Bunker Hill Co. for 24 years before retiring in 1977.

Mr. Greene was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Bunker Hill 20-Year Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Edith; two sons, Keith of Wyoming and Berl of Minnesota; four grandchildren, Kristen Boling, and Brian, Corey and Casey Greene; and two great-grandchildren, Colby and Allison Boling. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Kellogg, 507 Brown Ave., Kellogg, ID 83837.

Martin Grove Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Service for Martin Dale Grove, 71, was held Friday at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home.

Mr. Grove, who was born in Montana, died Monday.

He grew up and was educated in Montana, later joining the Army and serving in World War II. He served in the European Theater and was deployed at the Battle of the Bulge.

He received two Purple Hearts before his military discharge in 1946.

Mr. Grove had worked for the Daniels County Road and Bridge Department in Montana for 25 years before retiring in 1989. He moved to Bonners Ferry the same year.

He loved visiting with friends and family and took pride in his yard and home. He enjoyed the simple things in life.

Mr. Grove was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eagles Club.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Florence; his mother, Jenny Grove of Montana; two brothers, Richard Grove of Moses Lake and Oliver Grove of Montana; four sisters, Edna Kainley of Oregon, Doreen Crites of Moses Lake, and Arline Ferestad and Florence Linder, both of Montana; four stepchildren, Dallas Day, Dick Day and Diane Dretke, all of Coeur d’Alene, and Danelle Jenkins of Wyoming; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Daisy Leslie Olympia

Service for Daisy Leslie, a former Spokane resident, will be at 1 p.m. today at New Life Baptist Church, Olympia. Burial will be at Forest Memorial Gardens in Olympia. Mills and Mills Funeral Home in Olympia is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Leslie, 65, died Wednesday. She was born in Fort Meyers, Fla.

She moved to Spokane in 1949 and graduated from Holy Names College in Spokane and received a master’s degree in curriculum from Whitworth College.

She taught in Spokane from 1955 until 1981.

She then moved to California and had lived in Olympia for the past three years.

Mrs. Leslie’s survivors include one son, Kendrick Leslie of Spokane; one daughter, Karen Johnson of Olympia; one brother, Edward Parker of Manhattan, N.Y., two sisters, Alma Parker of Fort Meyers and Lilly Boot of Edmonds, Wash.; and two granddaughters.

Loren Anderson Colfax, Wash.

Service for Loren E. Anderson, 86, is set for 11 a.m. Monday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will follow at Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Anderson, who died Wednesday, was born in Gallipolis, Ohio.

He moved to the Palouse, Wash., area during his school years and later worked for Western Electric.

In 1930 he married Martha Miller in Spokane and they settled in the Green Hollow area near Colfax and farmed until 1973, when they moved into Colfax.

His wife died in 1994.

Mr. Anderson was a rock hound and faceted gems and had a home on Lake Coeur d’Alene. He was a member of the Colfax Eagles Lodge, Colfax Elks Lodge and Parvin Grange.

Survivors include one son, David Anderson of Worley, Idaho; one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Home Health and Hospice of Southeastern Washington or the Colfax Eagles Auxiliary Heart Fund.

Ralph ‘Gene’ Collins Oldtown, Idaho

Private service will be held for Ralph E. “Gene” Collins, 69. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home of Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Collins died Tuesday of cancer. He was born in Wenatchee.

He moved to Oldtown, Idaho, 19 years ago after living in Spokane and the Deer Park area.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

In 1965 he married Judith Wilson in Coeur d’Alene.

He worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Spokane for more than 12 years and later was employed as a heavy equipment operator. He retired in 1989.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; two daughters, Melissa Collins of Sandpoint and Susan Halterman of Waynesville, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Teresa and Robin Moore, both of Spokane; one stepson, Ronald Martell of Spokane; two brothers, Otis Clough of Fairfield, Calif., and Meryl Blackbird of Deer Park; two sisters, Joyce Payment and Dolly Good, both of Rathdrum, Idaho; and four grandchildren.

Adelaide Swenson Spokane

Private inurnment for Adelaide Alice Swenson, 93, will be at Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Swenson, who died Wednesday, was born in Hallock, Minn.

She moved to Lewiston with her family and worked at the Lewiston Grocery.

She married James Swenson in 1927. He preceded her in death.

In Spokane, she had worked as a bookkeeper for Washington Machinery and Sampson-Ayers Music Store. She was also a homemaker.

She was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Swenson is survived by one son, Harold Swenson of Spokane; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Walter Dorsey Tekoa, Wash.

Visitation for Walter A. Dorsey, 89, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa.

Mr. Dorsey, former owner of Dorsey Chevrolet in Tekoa, died Thursday at Valley Hospital and Medical Center in Spokane. He was born in Thornton, Wash.

His family moved to Rosalia, Wash., when he was young, and he graduated from Rosalia High School.

In 1925 he moved to Tekoa and started Dorsey Chevrolet, which he operated until 1970. When Dorsey Chevrolet closed in 1990, it was the oldest Chevrolet dealership in Washington.

Mr. Dorsey received numerous awards for his auto dealership and served on the Chevrolet Dealer Planning Council.

He was a member of the Tekoa Jaycees and Tekoa Investors.

He married Claudia Hollis in 1930 in Waverly, Wash. She died in 1993.

Mr. Dorsey is survived by one son, Tom Dorsey, and one daughter, Dianne Payne, both of Spokane; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
