Passengers prayed and wept as a Southwest Airlines jet with a crippled left landing gear touched down safely Tuesday, skidding to a halt with a shriek of metal and a billow of smoke.
None of the 127 passengers or five crew members was hurt as the Boeing 737 came to rest.
Flight 1767 from Las Vegas to Burbank was diverted to Ontario International Airport, 50 miles east of Los Angeles, for the landing.
“Everyone on that plane was terrified,” passenger David Rose, weekend anchor of the syndicated TV show “Extra,” told KCBS-TV.
“One man was praying out loud, a couple other people were crying, and then it got real, real quiet.”
