Bomb Destroys Valley Outhouse

From Staff Reports

A bomb destroyed a portable toilet in the Spokane Valley late Tuesday or early Wednesday, authorities reported.

The device exploded inside the outhouse at a construction site near 21st and Progress, said Bob Harper of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

The toilet “was pretty well torn up,” but there were no injuries, Harper said.

Several residents reported being awakened by the blast some time during the night, but the explosion wasn’t discovered until 9 a.m. Wednesday when construction crews arrived for work, Harper said.

There are no suspects and no motive at this time.

Harper refused to describe the explosive device but said it “was an actual bomb” and not a powerful firecracker or cherry bomb.
