Prosecutor Charges Teens For Spree

From Staff Reports

Ferry County Prosecutor Al Nielson threw the book Wednesday at three teenage boys accused of terrorizing Inchelium residents in a three-day crime spree.

Nielson filed about a dozen charges apiece against the suspects and said he will seek to have the oldest, a 16-year-old, tried in adult court.

Colville Tribal Police arrested him and two 13-year-olds Monday night after they allegedly stopped an Inchelium School bus at gunpoint and attempted to kidnap one of the passengers.

The boys also are accused of breaking into the school and vandalizing it on Saturday. On Sunday, police say, they stole a rifle at one Inchelium-area house, food at another, and a pickup truck at a third.

They allegedly shot at the pickup’s owner, missing her by no more than a yard, and then shot at two law officers, hitting one of their patrol cars.

All three boys were charged with attempted kidnapping with a deadly weapon, theft of a firearm, first-degree burglary with a deadly weapon, car theft, first-degree assault and attempting to elude police.

All the suspects are to be arraigned Tuesday, and the older boy is scheduled for a hearing then on whether he should tried as an adult.
