Time For A Little Fiddlin’ Around Bluegrass Festival Blooms At The Met On Saturday

As the lilacs start to bloom in Spokane, so does the bluegrass.

Bluegrass music, that is.

On Saturday, the Inland Northwest Bluegrass Association will throw its second annual “Bloomin’ Bluegrass,” a bluegrass music festival at The Met at 7:30 p.m.

Three of the best local bluegrass bands - Once in a Blue Moon, Northern Cross and Hired Hands - will anchor the acoustical celebration.

Once in a Blue Moon employs all the traditional bluegrass instruments, from banjo to fiddle, to stir up a tasty musical stew. With its live show, the band combines storytelling with music.

Northern Cross fuses bluegrassstyle gospel music with instrumentals. The band’s been known to pop in at local nightclubs a few times a month.

Hired Hands has chalked up 10 years as a band in Spokane. The quartet opts for traditional standards in its repertoire, yet has also been known to throw in a few originals.

If you’re so inclined, bring your acoustic instrument and stick around for the jam session that follows the show. Also, there will be a cookie and bake sale.
