‘Bomb’ Package Found At Capitol

From Staff And Wire Reports

A cardboard box with the word “BOMB” written on it was found under the steps of the Idaho state Capitol Thursday night, along with a political message directed at Gov. Phil Batt, authorities said.

Police evacuated a six-block area around the Capitol after the package was found around 8 p.m.

At 10:30, the area was still evacuated and police were X-raying the box to check its contents.

The governor left the Statehouse for a speaking engagement more than two hours before the package was discovered.

“He has had threats while he’s been in office but as far as I know we haven’t had any for several months,” said Batt’s spokeswoman, Amy Kleiner.

The package was left in an area near where the governor parks his car.
