Kennedy, who served as treasury secretary from 1969 until 1971, died late Wednesday at his home here, church officials said.
After his three years as treasury secretary, Kennedy served two years as U.S. ambassador at large, with cabinet rank, and was U.S. ambassador to NATO from 1972 to 1973.
