Moos Shakes Up Staff

Compiled From Wire Services

Oregon athletic director Bill Moos has restructured the athletic department, elevating Dave Heeke to associate director to oversee the Ducks’ marketing and media relations.

Steve Hellyer has been reassigned from assistant athletic director for media services to a new position as coordinator of football operations and special events.

Hellyer had headed Oregon’s sports information department since 1982.

Moos is a former football player and administrator at Washington State.

Oklahoma athletic director Donnie Duncan stepped aside after nearly 10 years on the job to become director of football operations with the Big 12 Conference.

The highlights of Duncan’s tenure at Oklahoma included his hiring of baseball coach Larry Cochell and men’s basketball coach Kelvin Sampson. But he also hired Howard Schnellenberger, which proved to be a disaster, and in 1990 he disbanded the women’s basketball program, only to reinstate it after a public outcry.
