County Road Crews Busy Erasing Potholes Turned In By Residents
Spokane County road crews patched more than 100 holes in weather-torn Valley roads last month.
Working from calls to a “Pothole Hotline,” residents identified 252 potholes across the county. Approximately half of those were in the Valley.
County road crews have filled about 80 percent of those potholes so far and expect to complete the job in the next several weeks, county spokesman Chad Hutson said.
The potholes that still need to be filled require removing pavement and more extensive patchwork, Hutson said.
County engineers were pleased with the response to the hotline program, which ended Tuesday. They said it would have been impossible to identify all of the potholes in the 2,950 miles of county roads without residents’ help.
Callers also identified 42 potholes on city streets, and that information was forwarded to city engineers.
Drainage improvements
Valley residents are invited to a public workshop to discuss where and when drainage improvements and water quality projects are conducted by Spokane Public Works.
The workshop is Thursday at East Valley High School, 15711 E. Wellesley. It begins at 7 p.m.
The Valley workshop is one of three in the Spokane area.
Workshops also will be held at the Sierra Hotel, 4212 W. Sunset, on Monday and at the North Spokane Library, 44 E. Hawthorne, on Wednesday. Both are at 7 p.m.
The county’s Stormwater Utility is developing a plan that will prioritize its projects.
County officials have developed a questionnaire for residents who cannot attend one of the meetings. Questionnaires are available by calling 456-8855.
Development positions open
The board of county commissioners is accepting applications for at least two positions on the county community advisory committee.
Each position is a three-year term. The application deadline is May 20.
Among other duties, the committee develops goals and objectives for the county’s community development block grant and HOME Program. It also makes recommendations to the county commissioners on the allocation of federal funds to community development projects.
Anyone interested in applying should submit an application and resume to the county commissioners. Applications are available in the commissioners office at 1116 W. Broadway or by calling 456-2265.
SCOPE yard sale
Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort-East is holding a yard sale today.
The sale which runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. is at the Otis Orchards Community Church, 23304 E. Wellesley.
Clothes, television sets, wood saws, lawn furniture and a lawn mower will be among the items available.
