Powell Upset In Long Jump

Brazil’s Nelson Ferreira set a personal best of 27 feet, 3-3/4 inches to beat world record holder Mike Powell at the Brazilian Grand Prix track meet. Powell took second with a jump of 26-8-1/2.

Gwen Torrence won the women’s 100 meters (11.13 seconds) and Michael Johnson (20.27) took the men’s 200 as Americans swept to seven firsts, seven seconds and five third places.
