Former Red Sox Manager Charged With Drug Possession

Compiled From Wire Services

Butch Hobson, the former Boston Red Sox manager now managing in the minors, was arrested during the weekend and charged with cocaine possession.

He was given a leave of absence Monday as manager of Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, the Philadelphia Phillies’ Triple-A International League team.

Hobson, 44, was arrested Saturday at The Comfort Inn in Pawtucket, where the minor league team was staying during a two-game, weekend series.

Authorities had a search warrant, found 2 grams of cocaine in Hobson’s hotel room, and arrested him.

Television station WJAR in Cranston reported the cocaine was delivered to Hobson in an express-mail package from an acquaintance near Hobson’s off-season home in Fairhope, Ala.
