Nic Student Newspaper Honored By Press Club

The North Idaho College Sentinel student newspaper recently won recognition in several categories at the Idaho Press Club’s 1995 Awards held in Sun Valley, Idaho.

General Excellence Award: NIC Sentinel, first place. Serious Feature: Melody Martz, “Native Americans,” third place. Editorial: Mark Aaron Perry, third place. Sports News Reporting: Cheyenne Mahncke, “NBA: Is it Still Fantastic?,” third place. Photography: A. Kibbee Walton, “Together We Stand,” second place.

Sandpoint High School publications students have been recognized by several organizations for their work on the student newspaper, “Cedar Post,” and the yearbook, “Monticola.”

Idaho Press Women State Convention:

Cedar Post: Frank Cipriano, story of the year and news writing, first place; page design, honorable mention. Kyle Delamarter, editorial cartooning, first and second place; editorial writing, second place. Mike Delucchi, page layout, first place in graphics; sports writing, first and second place; feature writing, third place. Kelly Tucker, photography, first and second place. Becca Camp, sports writing, first place. Jennifer Dean, editorial writing, first place. Natalie Middleton, feature stories, third place and honorable mention; sports writing, second place; sports writing, “State Volleyball Championship,” National Quill and Scroll Gold Key Award.

JEA National Convention:

Monticola Annie Love, yearbook layout, certificate of excellence. Cory Myers, yearbook photography, third place. Becca Camp, copyreading, honorable mention. Nitchell Green, review writing, honorable mention.

The Cedar Post took the Sweepstakes Award, for the third consecutive year, for earning the most points in the competition.
