Syrup Puts Pancakes Back On Diabetic’s Diet

What do you do if you can’t have sugar, but you can’t stand the thought of eating pancakes without a healthy helping of maple syrup on top?

Merle Clark Country Flavored Maple Syrup, from Diabetic’s Delight! in San Francisco, may be just what the doctor ordered - “better than any I’ve found in grocery stores,” according to the reader who wrote us about it.

The syrup, which also comes in blueberry and raspberry flavors, is made with hydrogenated starch hydrolysate (maltitol syrup), a corn-based, non-sugar sweetener. So are the Merle Clark caramels, which our correspondent assures us “are to die for.”

Price: $7.25, plus $3.50 shipping and handling, for 12-ounce syrups.

Available: By calling (800) 568-7869.
