The Allure May Be Gone, But Check Out Those Abs

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

And now, back to the Princess Diana beat:

Harpers and Queen magazine dropped Di from its list of the world’s 50 most alluring women. Said an editor: “Mystery is an essential part of allure. Unfortunately, the Princess of Wales hasn’t stayed aloof from the media and has rather lost that for the time being.”

Sophie Rhys-Jones, Prince Edward’s steady who works out at the same gym as Di, on her physique: “She’s beginning to look like a gladiator … Her neck looks quite thick now. She’s put on 12 pounds just in muscle.”

A British television network has canceled plans for a show featuring a Di look-alike being psychoanalyzed - for example, her “swallowing (men) and then spitting them out” reflecting her battle with bulimia. “Very innovative and unusual concept,” a spokesman said, but “the idea did not work.”

Loose talk

Timothy McVeigh, on how it feels to be the suspected Oklahoma City bomber (in Britain’s Sunday Times): “Better … than being one of Princess Di’s lovers.”

Which means the Captain must really be draggin’

Toni Tennille turns 53 today.

Alive, obviously, is not one of the prerequisites

So just who does Harpers and Queen consider alluring? The top five, from the bottom up: Ingrid Bergman, Catherine Deneuve, Julie Christie, Ava Gardner and, above all, Audrey Hepburn, who “epitomizes the spirit of contradiction essential to allure, elegant but carefree, worldly yet innocent, warm but elusive, and, of course, supremely beautiful.”

And if they try, use your Scent of Pepper Spray

Dame Barbara Cartland, Britain’s 94-year-old queen of not-so-steamy romance novels (not to mention Princess Diana’s stepgrandmother), has joined the ranks of celebrity fragrance peddlers with a new perfume, Scent of Romance. Said the ever-demure Cartland: “Any man would want to kiss a woman wearing this, but would go no further.”

But it’s going to ruin her figure skating

Two-time Olympic medalist Nancy Kerrigan and her husband/manager, Jerry Solomon, are expecting their first child in December, a spokeswoman announced Tuesday. Kerrigan, 26, plans to continue performing with the Tour of World Figure Skating Champions until that schedule ends in mid-July.

Actually, we all know how Di throws her food

Joely Fisher (“Ellen”), the offspring of Connie Stevens and Eddie Fisher, on her upcoming marriage to a cinematographer (in People magazine): “Mom and I both want a big, traditional wedding. It’s the details we see differently. She’s from Brooklyn and sees a wedding where they throw food and dance and pin money on the bride and groom, and I’m like, ‘No food throwing!’ Mom says, ‘Oh, you’re not Princess Diana, Joely!”’
