Grambling Icon Dies
Funeral services will be held Saturday for Dan Washington, who played on the first team Eddie Robinson coached at Grambling State and later was a team trainer for 45 years.
Washington, 74, died Sunday.
He was a player at Grambling when Robinson arrived in 1941. They grew up in the same Baton Rouge, La., neighborhood and attended the same high school.
Washington was a center on Robinson’s first team and was a leader on the 1942 squad that won eight games and was unbeaten, untied and unscored on.
