M’S Ace Could Be Back Soon

Tacoma News Tribune

The world’s fantasy league managers who have waited anxiously for the update on the health of Randy Johnson received good news Tuesday.

Johnson played long toss during batting practice and was examined by the Seattle Mariners’ orthopedic specialist, Dr. Larry Pedegana, just before game time.

Pedegana said Johnson is making gradual progress with the irritated nerve in his lower back and there is a “high likelihood he will pitch this weekend.”

Johnson will be re-examined again before the end of the week to make the final determination.

Johnson has removed himself in each of his last two starts, citing muscle problems in his lower back and right calf.
