Obituaries

Carol Edgren Colfax, Wash.

Visitation for Carol (Hunt) Edgren, 96, is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Plymouth Congregational Church of Colfax. Burial will follow at Colfax Cemetery.

Mrs. Edgren, who died Wednesday, was born in Colfax.

She and her husband, Claude Edgren, purchased the Elk Drug Store in Colfax. They kept a second home at Hayden Lake, Idaho.

Mrs. Edgren was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, PEO Chapter AF, the Altura Club and the Washington State Pharmacy Association Auxiliary.

Her husband died in 1981. Survivors include two sons, Gordon Edgren of Liberty Lake and Roger Edgren of Colfax; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Janice Fitzpatrick Boise

Service for Janice Fitzpatrick, 65, will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel in Boise. Graveside service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Pinecrest Cemetery in Sandpoint. Mrs. Fitzpatrick, who was born in Montana, died Thursday in Boise.

She grew up and attended school in Sandpoint, graduating from Sandpoint High School in 1948.

She worked for Safeway Stores Inc. in Sandpoint and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1959. She moved to Boise in 1962 and was employed by Continental Life Insurance Co. for 17 years.

Mrs. Fitzpatrick was a member of the Baptist Church, The Outdoor Association and various square dance clubs.

Survivors include her husband, Fred; one son, Shawn of Boise; one daughter, Kellie Neal of Florida; one sister, Joyce Graves of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Gerhard Roth Spokane

Memorial service for Gerhard Otto Roth, 81, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Roth, who was born in Trenton, Ill., died Monday.

He joined the Army Air Corps in 1937 and retired from the Air Force in 1960.

Mr. Roth received a master’s degree in counseling and guidance from Whitworth College.

He taught at Riverside High School and served as principal at Ponderosa Junior High School. He joined the faculty of Spokane Community College in 1966.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice (Perkins) Roth; two sons, Gary Roth of Vacaville, Calif., and James Roth of Spokane; two sisters, Wally Roth of Woodhaven, N.Y., and Doris Sims of Portland; two brothers, Howard Roth of Portland and Otto Roth of Medford, Ore.; and four grandchildren.

Zachary Stutz Priest River, Idaho

Visitation for Zachary Paul “Zach” Stutz, 12, is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River and from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday at St. Blanche Catholic Church at Priest Lake. Burial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

Zach died Tuesday from a heart condition. He was born in Spokane and was a sixth-grader at Priest Lake (Idaho) Elementary.

He is survived by his parents, Bob and Barbara Stutz of Priest River; one brother, Brian Seguin of Coeur d’Alene; one sister, Laurie Seguin of California; and his grandparents, Darrell and Edythe Clements of Priest River, and Rose Stutz of St. Louis, Mo.

Alice Swan Colfax, Wash.

Memorial service for Alice Louese Swan, 73, will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Community Bible Church in Colfax. Family burial service will be at Genesee (Idaho) Cemetery.

Mrs. Swan, who died Wednesday, was born in Genesee.

She graduated from nursing school in Walla Walla in 1944, then worked for the American Red Cross setting up emergency centers for polio victims.

She and her husband, Sherwood Swan, operated a nursing home in Spokane for a few years and then lived in Osburn, Idaho, and Clarkston, Wash. They moved to Colfax in 1970, and she worked at the Palouse (Wash.) Nursing Center and Tekoa (Wash.) Care Center.

They moved to Everett in 1981 and returned to Colfax after they retired in February.

She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Kalea Swan of Edmonds, Wash.; one son, Ross Swan of Steptoe, Wash.; one sister, June Moore of Garfield, Wash.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mary Rose Jamison Spokane

Service Mary Rose Jamison, 78, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jamison, a 39-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday. She was born in Lang, Saskatchewan.

She served in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II as a nurse.

She was a homemaker, and a member of several bridge groups and the Spokane Newcomers Organization.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Douglas Jamison; one son, Douglas “Mac” Jamison of Spokane; two daughters, Sara Fitzsimons of Phoenix, Ariz., and Barbara Packett of Lincoln, Neb; one sister, one brother; and six grandchildren.

Bessie Cline Spokane

Visitation for Bessie T. Cline, 97, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today through Monday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Private entombment will follow.

Born in Jackson, Minn., Mrs. Cline died Wednesday.

Mrs. Cline, a 51-year Spokane resident, was a homemaker and a member of the Women’s Society of Liberty Park Methodist Church and the Goodwill Auxiliary.

Her husband, Orlan Cline, died in 1979. She is survived by one son, Nick Cline of Spokane; one sister, Della Ewald of Moses Lake; two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Gordon Bjork Spokane

Visitation for Gordon R. Bjork, 79, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Bjork, who was born in New London, Minn., died Thursday.

He served in the Army during World War II, then worked at the Polson Co. for 40 years. He worked for Barber Agri Sales, where he was a co-owner, for 15 years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and had lived in Spokane for 43 years.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Margaret; one daughter, Barbara Pointer of Spokane; two sons, Roger Bjork of Nine Mile Falls and Bruce Bjork of Olympia; one brother, Wendell Bjork of Browerville, Minn.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.

Thomas Charnes Spokane

Service for Thomas R. Charnes, 69, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Holy Cross Chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery. Burial will follow. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Charnes, who died Tuesday, was born in Wilmerding, Pa.

He was a house painter and retired from Mr. Service Inc. He had lived in Spokane for the past 25 years.

Mr. Charnes is survived by his wife of 28 years, Leila Charnes; and one brother, Edward Charnes of North Huntingdon, Pa.
