U.S. Women Beat Aussies

Ruthie Bolton scored 20 points to lead the United States to an 81-72 victory over Australia in a four-nation women’s basketball tournament at Sydney.

The American national team has won all four of its games in the tournament and has a 43-0 overall record, including 21 victories over international competition.

Lisa Leslie scored 16 for the Americans, and Sheryl Swoopes added 14.

Whitman College women’s basketball coach John Wilcox will retire in June, the private college announced.

Wilcox, 58, said he decided to take advantage of the Walla Walla school’s early retirement program. The physical education teacher has coached since 1981, compiling a 178-179 record.
