Roy Brown Tensed, Idaho

Memorial service for Roy K. Brown, 84, is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at the United Church of Tekoa (Wash.). His ashes will be buried at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brown, who died Saturday at Tekoa Care Center, was born in Tekoa.

He married Mabel Harden in Coeur d’Alene in 1932 and they settled in Portland for 12 years.

Mr. Brown enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and was discharged in 1945. He moved to Sacramento and operated an electronics business there until 1964.

He married Charlotte Selzo Gilmour in 1957 in Sacramento. In 1964 they moved to Tensed, where they farmed. Mr. Brown retired in 1969.

He was a member of the United Church of Tekoa and the Tensed Senior Citizens.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Royall Brown of West Covina, Calif.; one daughter, Boneva Ann Allinger of Wilton, Calif.; two sisters, Eleanor Day of Lewiston and Evelyn Scott of Hayden, Idaho; two stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Tensed Senior Center.

Clarence Gaustad Spokane

Service for Clarence O. Gaustad, 92, will be at 11 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Gaustad, who was born in McCook, S.D., died Sunday.

He moved to Spokane in 1942 and worked as a carpenter for 45 years. He also had a small farm.

He was a member of Carpenters Union Local 48.

His wife, Karen Gaustad, died in 1969.

He is survived by four daughters, Doris Niemeyer of Spokane, Joan Lundeen of Reardan, Wash., Carol Hood of Hartline, Wash., and Judy McCormack of Lacey, Wash.; three sons, Larry Gaustad of Spanaway, Wash., Wayne Gaustad of Antioch, Calif., and Ronnie Gaustad of Spokane; one stepbrother, Forrest Dawson of Chicago; 26 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Margarite Weitkamp Gig Harbor, Wash.

Memorial service for Margarite Weitkamp, 96, was May 7 at Peninsula Lutheran Church in Gig Harbor. Burial was at Rockford Cemetery.

Mrs. Weitkamp, a former Rockford and Spokane resident, died May 5. She was born in Lake Creek, Idaho.

She married Albert Weitkamp when she was 17, and they settled in Rockford. They later moved to the Spokane Valley.

Her husband died in 1980. Mrs. Weitkamp moved to Gig Harbor in 1994.

She and her husband were charter members of Hope Lutheran Church in Veradale, and she was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dishman.

Survivors include one son, Don Weitkamp of Seattle; one daughter, Alma Boge of Gig Harbor; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Paul Taylor Kellogg

Private burial for Paul Taylor, 85, will be held Thursday at 1:15 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Kellogg.

Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Taylor, a lifelong Kellogg resident, died Sunday.

He graduated from Kellogg High School in 1930 and went on to work for the Bunker Hill Mining Co. as a supervisor at the smelter for 43 years before retiring in 1973.

He was a member of the Bunker Hill 20-Year Club and the Kellogg Planning and Zoning Committee and served on the board of the Christian Life Center in Kellogg. He was also a volunteer for the city of Kellogg cleanup crew.

Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife of 61 years, Naydeen; two sons, Ted Taylor of Ellensburg and David Taylor of Kellogg; three daughters, Pat Roberts and Nancy Morrow, both of Meridian, Idaho, and Susie Lowe of Kellogg; one sister, Margaret Harrison of Spokane; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Nora Moon Bellingham

Memorial service for Nora C. Moon, a former Spokane resident, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spokane. Family graveside service will be at Riverside Cemetery. Jones-Moles Funeral Home in Bellingham is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Moon, who was born in Cedarburg, Wis., died Sunday. She was 91.

She had lived in Spokane from 1926 until seven months ago, when she moved to Bellingham.

She married Charles Moon in 1928. He died in 1962.

Mrs. Moon is survived by one daughter, LaVar Kilpatrick of Stuart Island, Wash.; one sister, Esther Seidler of Cedarburg; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or the Sinto Senior Center.

Desema Peterson Spokane

Graveside service for Desema (Odloug) Peterson, 108, will be at 2 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Peterson, who was born in Norway, died Saturday.

She has lived in the Inland Northwest for 87 years, and in Spokane for the past 10 years.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Peterson is survived by one daughter, Hazel Overmyer of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Humane Society.

Erwill Hall Spokane

Graveside service for Erwill W. Hall, 94, is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hall, who died Monday, was born in Lewistown, Mont.

He had lived in Spokane for 54 years and worked in maintenance for more than 25 years with Phillips Petroleum.

Mr. Hall was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and the El Katif Shrine.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Hazel Hall; one son, Wallace Hall of Depoe Bay, Ore.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Bertha Bailey Spokane

Funeral Mass for Bertha M. Bailey, 76, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Augustine Catholic Church, where she was a member. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bailey, a 48-year Spokane resident, died Sunday. She was born in Helper, Utah.

She had been vice president and secretary of Bailey’s Women’s Shoes.

She is survived by her husband, George Bailey; one son, George Bailey, and one daughter, Barbara Cafaro, both of Spokane; five sisters, Jay Josephs, Issabelle and Roslyn Sheya, and Ruth Howa, all of Salt Lake City, and Edna Higgins of La Grande, Ore.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Carl Slagle Spokane

Memorial service for L. Carl Slagle, 81, is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. There will be private inurnment.

Mr. Slagle, who was born in St. Joe, Ark., died Sunday.

His family moved from Arkansas to Wilder, Idaho, in the late 1930s. In Wilder, he operated a Blacksmith Shop for 24 years. He moved to Spokane in 1964 and worked for the city for more than 12 years as a welder. He retired in 1976.

He was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows.

Mr. Slagle is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elfie Slagle of Spokane; three daughters, Bernice McDonald of Spokane, Bonnie Washburn of Priest River, Idaho, and Barbara Grover of Seattle; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Carl Larsen Spokane

Service for Carl Larsen, 91, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fortine (Mont.) Community Church. Burial will be at Fortine Community Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Larsen, who died Saturday, was born in Miami.

A 40-year Spokane resident, Mr. Larsen worked for the Forest Service in Montana for nine years and for the Montana Highway Department for two years. He also worked for J. Neils Lumber Co. in Libby, Mont., for eight years, before he moved to Spokane.

In Spokane he worked for the Spokane School District until he retired.

Mr. Larsen had also served in the Navy.

His wife of 56 years, Lucretia, died in 1986.

He is survived by two daughters, Joan Read of Spokane and Dalma Swift of Boise; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lois Smith Lacey, Wash.

Private service was held for Lois Smith, 88, a former longtime Spokane resident.

Mrs. Smith died May 7 in Lacey, where she had lived for more than 13 years. She was born in Omaha, Neb.

She married Burtt Smith in 1928 in Omaha. He died in 1990.

She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Spokane Unitarian Church.

Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons, Russell Smith of Spokane, Roger Smith of Brewster, N.Y., and Jerald Smith of Olympia; one daughter, Linda Kalarchian of Bedford Village, N.Y.; one sister, Kathleen Bruskin of Port Townsend, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Terry Jordan Deer Park

Service for Terry Lee Jordan, 45, is planned for 11 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Presentation Catholic Church in Deer Park. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jordan, who died Friday, was born in Spokane.

He graduated from Shadle Park High School and was a stockroom clerk at Sacred Heart Medical Center for more than 22 years.

He was a Navy veteran and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3067 in Deer Park and the Deer Park Eagles Lodge.

Mr. Jordan is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Jordan of Deer Park; and one sister, Edna Schaffer of Alexandria, Va.

Helen Kine Spokane

Memorial service for Helen Florence Grace Kine, 87, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kine, who died Saturday, was born in Tacoma.

She was a longtime Spokane resident and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

In 1930 she married Alex Kine. He died in 1989.

Mrs. Kine was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Science Church, the Manito Garden Club and square dancing groups, including the Do Se Dos.

Mrs. Kine is survived by one son, Patrick Kine of Shelton, Wash.; one daughter, Pamela Funseth of Spokane; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mildred ‘Bonnie’ Erickson Hunters, Wash.

Service for Mildred “Bonnie” Erickson, 81, is set for 2 p.m. today at Cedonia (Wash.) Community Church. Burial will be at Cedonia Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Issaquah, Wash., Mrs. Erickson died Saturday.

She graduated from high school in Issaquah and in 1939 married Ted Erickson. They farmed in Issaquah until 1965, when they moved to Hunters and continued farming.

She was a member of the Issaquah Grange, Pine Lake Garden Club and the Greenwood Park Grange in Hunters.

She is survived by her husband; four sons, Dale and Mel Erickson, both of Hunters, Daryl Erickson of Longview, Wash., and Ray Erickson of Moore, Mont.; one brother, Mahlon Settem of Kennewick; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cedonia Community Church.

Mary Nelson Pinehurst, Idaho

Memorial service for Mary M. Nelson, 56, will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Pinehurst Baptist Church. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nelson, who was born in American Falls, Idaho, died Saturday.

She was a Pinehurst resident and a member of the Pinehurst Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Eugene; one son, Eugene Nelson II of Pinehurst; four daughters, Glenda Baker of Montana, Brenda Wilson of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Teresa Nelson Lake of Medical Lake and Lisa Bowen of Post Falls; her mother, Roxie Pennington of Silverton, Idaho; three sisters, Virginia Dries of Pinehurst, and Helen Carroll and Bonnie Jenks, both of Montana; two brothers, Wayne Pennington of Pinehurst and Bill Pennington of Pocatello, Idaho; and five grandchildren.
