2 Children Hit, Killed By Driver Taking Test

Compiled From Wire Services

A woman accidentally killed two children Wednesday when she mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal during her driver’s test and pinned them against a building, authorities said.

The 24-year-old student driver was told by her instructor, a state trooper, to put the gear shift into “park,” said Mike Cox, a state Department of Public Safety spokesman.

As the trooper glanced at paperwork, the woman instead put the car into “drive” and then stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake.

The car lurched forward, pinning a boy and a girl against a wall of the Department of Public Safety license office in Houston. They were dead on arrival at a hospital.
