Jones Qualifies For Olympic Trials In 5,000 Meters

Stomach cramps forced Spokane’s Kim Jones to withdraw from the U.S. Olympic Trials in the marathon in February, but didn’t kill her chances of making the team.

Jones, 38, got off the roads and back on the track last weekend to run the 5,000 meters in 15 minutes, 43.04 seconds at the Oregon Adidas Track Classic in Eugene.

The time, which placed her second behind Trina Painter, was an automatic qualifier for the event at the U.S. Olympic Trials in June at Atlanta. , DataTimes
