Foley In Hospital With Infected Toe

From Staff And Wire Reports

Former House Speaker Tom Foley was in a Washington, D.C., hospital Saturday afternoon recovering from an infected toe, his administrative assistant said.

“This isn’t serious, but painful,” said Janet Gilpatrick, his administrative assistant in Spokane.

Foley left May 9 on a business trip to Taiwan and South Korea. Gilpatrick said Foley had complained of a sore toe.

By the time he returned Thursday, the toe was infected, Gilpatrick said. Doctors hospitalized him and treated him with antibiotics.

Gilpatrick said she spoke with Foley on Friday and talked with his wife Saturday.

Foley is scheduled to be released today, Gilpatrick said.

He was on a business trip representing Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, the Washington, D.C., law firm Foley works for.

The firm lobbies on behalf of large companies. Foley specializes in international affairs there.
