Jockey Pat Day escaped injury after being thrown from his mount before the first race at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., one day after he won his third consecutive Preakness Stakes.

Day was unseated during the post parade and struck his head along the outside rail. He was taken by ambulance to Caritas Medical Center, where tests showed he was fine.

Kenyan Thomas Osano and South African Elana Meyer won the men’s and women’s divisions at the 85th running of the Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco.

Osano, a two-time Breakers champ (1991 and ‘92), finished the 12-kilometer (7.46-mile) race in 34:35, just two seconds in front of Kenyan Lazarus Nyakeraka, while Meyer ran most of the second half of the race without any female competition to clock 38:56.

Granby defeated Peterborough 4-0 to win the Memorial Cup in Peterborough, Ontario.
