United Way’s Chief Elaine Chao To Quit

Elaine L. Chao, who helped United Way of America rebuild after a 1992 scandal surrounding its former chief, says she will resign as president by Sept. 1.

“My job is complete,” she said.

Former president William Aramony is serving a seven-year prison term for conspiracy, tax and fraud convictions.

A spokeswoman said a search committee will be formed this week to look for a successor.
