Birds Feather Nests In Airliners

Now that bird nesting season is here, pilots are being warned to make sure the feathered fliers don’t take up residence in airplanes.

“Even a routine overnight layover provides adequate time for birds to set up housekeeping in out-of-the-way places,” warns the Flight Safety Foundation.

One airline found a nest in the exhaust of an auxiliary power unit after a tug operator noticed birds flying in and out, the safety group reported.

The foundation urged pilots to look for signs of birds such as droppings, twigs and pieces of string during preflight checks.
