Davis Set To Hire Associate Head Coach

University of Idaho men’s basketball coach Kermit Davis is expected this week to hire Dave Farrar as an associate head coach.

Farrar was the head coach at Middle Tennessee State in the Ohio Valley Conference from 1991-1996. He previously coached at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, where his teams were 137-33. Hutchinson won the national junior college title in 1987.

Farrar will be Davis’ top assistant.

Liske moves up Toledo list

Idaho athletic director Pete Liske’s chances of landing Toledo’s A.D. job improved over the weekend when Mike Alden, one of Toledo’s leading candidates, was hired at Southwest Texas State.

The Toledo search had been on hold for two months after two newspapers filed a lawsuit charging the university with violations of Ohio open meetings laws. A judge late last week ruled in favor of the newspapers and the search has been reopened.

Other Toledo finalists are Mike Bobinski, A.D. at Akron, and Vivian Fuller, A.D. at Northeastern Illinois.

Under the judge’s orders, apparently the original applicants can request a special meeting with Toledo’s board of trustees to state their cases. The judge also ruled that upcoming proceedings must be in accordance with the open meetings laws.

Former Idaho athletic director Gary Hunter has turned down an offer to become Wyoming’s A.D.

Hunter is an executive with the Colorado Avalanche/Denver Nuggets.
