Windstorm Kills Two In Unkraine

Compiled From Wire Services

Fierce windstorms across Ukraine killed two people, tore roofs off hundreds of homes and left thousands without electricity, emergency officials said Thursday.

The winds raged through most of central and eastern Ukraine on Tuesday and Wednesday, abruptly ending weeks of unseasonably warm, calm weather.

An 8-year-old boy and one grown man were crushed to death by a falling electric pole.

The storms also disrupted farming. In one northern region, some 67,500 acres of grain will have to be replanted, officials said.
