Spokane Elite Gymast Brings Home State Title
Katie Dinsmore of Spokane Elite Gymnastics won the Level 6 all-around title at the Washington state Levels 5 and 6 gymnastics championships last weekend.
Dinsmore, 12, who had a 36.6 all-around score, won the beam with a 9.1. She scored 9.25 in both floor exercise and vault and 9.0 in bars.
Teammate Corinna Lewis won the Level 6 state vault title with a 9.45. Spokane Elite Gymnastics was third in the Level 6 team competition.

Baseball
Individual tickets for Spokane Indians home games will go on sale June 10 at the Indians’ office at Seafirst Stadium and G&B Select-A-Seat.
Ticket prices remain the same for the fifth straight year: $5.50 for upper box seats, $3.50 for adults in reserved seats, and $2.50 for children 12 and younger, seniors and military in reserved seats.
The Indians, who play in the short-season Class A Northwest League, open June 18 at Everett. Their home opener is June 21 against Eugene.
Spokane and the Tri-Cities will be the sites for Inland Empire AAU National Baseball Championship qualifiers June 21-23. Each is limited to eight teams.

Basketball
The Washington Stars U-19 boys AAU team, which has qualified for the national tournament Aug. 4-10 in New Orleans, needs one more player.
Candidates must have played in one of the U-19 qualifying tournaments in Yakima, Moscow or Spokane.
The Stars also are soliciting donations to help cover costs of the trip.

College scene
Community Colleges of Spokane landed three players on the first team and two on the second of the NWAACC Eastern Region All-Star baseball team.
Outfielder Andy Sage, designated hitter Trevor Davis and pitcher Adam Flohr were first-team picks. Named to the second were second baseman Chad Ripke and shortstop Chris Melsness.
Scott Woodward of Columbia Basin is the Eastern Region coach of the year.
Greg Kaatz, an Eastern Oregon College senior from Curlew, was named to the Cascade Collegiate Conference and Pacific Northwest/Far West Region all-star baseball teams for a second consecutive year.
Kaatz, a second baseman, started all 44 games for EOC (18-26), batting .405 with 66 hits, including a school-record 20 doubles, 42 runs, 29 walks and 33 stolen bases. All are team highs and the stolen-base total ties a school record.
Kaatz holds six school career records: most runs (104), hits (137), doubles (29), walks (79), hit by pitch (29) and stolen bases (59).
Brian Guastella, a Hamilton College sophomore from Spokane (Gonzaga Prep), hit .190 with one double, one triple and eight RBIs for the Continentals baseball team in Clinton, N.Y.
Nichole Affeldt, a George Fox College freshman from Medical Lake (Northwest Christian), hit .250 with two runs scored and two RBIs for the Bruins softball team.
Horse trials
More than 200 competitors from the Northwest, California and Canada are expected for the 15th Deep Creek Horse Trials June 8-9 at Deep Creek Farm in Medical Lake.
The event will feature dressage, stadium jumping and cross country, the same events that will be contested in the Olympic Games this summer in Atlanta.

Rodeo
The fourth annual Panorama Bull-A-Rama, featuring 25 bull riders, will be June 14 at 7 p.m. at the Northeast Washington Fairgrounds to highlight a June 14-16 rodeo in Colville.

Soccer
Gonzaga University has signed four high school seniors to letters of intent, including midfielder Mike Thompson from Lake City of Coeur d’Alene.
GU coach Einar Thorarinsson said J.C. Fernandez, a defender from Maui, Hawaii; Brian Ching, a forward from Honolulu; and Matt Blasdel, a defender/ midfielder from San Juan Capristrano, Calif., also will enroll in the fall.
Fernandez was the 1995 Gatorade Circle of Champions Player of the Year in Hawaii. Ching was the 1996 Inter-Scholastic League of Honolulu Player of the Year. Blasdel was an all-league and all-county pick, and Thompson was an all-conference first-team selection.
Track and field
Community Colleges of Spokane has hired Larry Beatty as head cross country and track coach, replacing Duane Hartman, who is retiring. Beatty has been head coach at Clark College in Vancouver, Wash., for three years and has won two conference championships.
Performance Training Track and Field Club, for athletes from junior high through masters, will have a meeting Tuesday, 6:30 p.m., at the Whitworth College track and field facility.
The club’s practices start June 3.

Miscellany
University of Washington is seeking nominations of former athletes, coaches and administrators for 1997 induction into the Husky Hall of Fame.
Qualifications for selection include: Athletes must have completed their athletic eligibility five or more years ago and have earned a varsity letter. Coaches or athletic staff members must have finished their tenure at the school.
Selection is based primarily on the nominee’s achievement while at UW.
