A huge fire destroyed an abandoned factory outlet complex in an old warehouse building and damaged at least 15 surrounding homes. Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries.
The blaze started late Saturday in the former Great Factory Store outlet building, racing through the four-story brick building’s wooden floors and showering cinders and debris over homes and cars for several blocks.
The fire wasn’t declared out until 8 a.m. Sunday.
Every available city firefighter was called to the fire, and at least 10 county fire companies also responded after the third alarm.
The building, littered with trash and old clothing racks, had been abandoned since 1985 and neighbors said children often played in it.
